Jerry "Dude" Deaver
Jerry “Dude” Deaver, 82, of Andrews passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 in Andrews surrounded by his family.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at a graveside service at 2:00 PM Friday, December 1, 2017 in the Andrews Old Cemetery with James Beard, son in law, officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM, and the family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 – 8 PM at McNett Funeral Home. Jerry was born on September 7, 1935 in Ranger, Texas to Otis Branch Deaver and Stella Avarine Walker Deaver. He was raised in Edmond, Oklahoma, Wichita Falls, and Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1954. He had been the state champion in Oklahoma in archery. He married Barbara Ann Follis on February 12, 1955 in Odessa, and they moved to Andrews in 1957 from Odessa. He had worked for Phillips Petroleum from 1956 – 1981 as a heavy equipment operator and welder. He had been working for the Stroman Ranch in Andrews County since 1983. He loved to hunt, fish, rodeo, working on the ranch and the cowboy way, bluegrass music, and was a great storyteller. He enjoyed having his family around him and spending time with them. He had attended McKinney Acres Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church in Andrews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, on July 16, 2012, his parents, brother, Randy Deaver, and a great granddaughter, Saige Price.
Jerry is survived by his 6 children, Tonya Beard and husband, James, of Andrews, Melody Dragoo and husband, Kenny, of Andrews, Jerry Ann Jones and husband, Sam, of Andrews, Ardie and Dee Ann Deaver of Andrews, Lorna Phillips and husband, Joe, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, and Randy Reinhardt and wife, Becky, of Uvalde; 1 sister, Martha Hilton and husband, Wayne, of Fort Myers, Florida; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
The family will be gathering and receiving meals at James and Tonya Beard's home at 828 SW 2001.
