Charles Ray "Charlie" Cahill, Sr.
Charles Ray “Charlie” Cahill, Sr., 90, of Andrews, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in Andrews.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 2:00 PM Friday, October 6, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 201 NE 2nd Street, in Andrews with Pastor Brant O'Connor officiating. Military graveside rites will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery under the personal care of McNett Funeral Home. Charlie was born on April 22, 1927 in Crane, Texas to Charles Otis Cahill and Lillie Hattie White Cahill. He met the love of his life, Bonnie Anita Keith, when attending Breckenridge High School. They were married on December 18, 1945 in Fort Worth, and they were blessed to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in December 2015.
He enlisted on April 14, 1945 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He served on the USS Destroyers – Trenton, Cortland, Sevier, Rocky Mount, and Melvin. He served in the Texas National Guard and U.S. Naval Reserves and was discharged on January 14, 1952.
They moved to Andrews in 1956 and became members of the First Baptist Church. He retired in 1989 after 33 years of service with Phillips Petroleum in Andrews as a plant operator. He enjoyed and was passionate about playing golf most every day, and had 9 certified hole in ones. He loved to travel with his wife in their RV, where they had visited all 48 lower states. He was a member of the Andrews Senior Citizen Center, Phillips Philresters, and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Charles Robert Cahill and Gary William Cahill.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Anita Cahill of Andrews; 2 sons, Charles R. Cahill, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Bastop and Jerry Cahill and wife, Pegi, of Plano; 3 grandchildren, Marilisa Muckerheide and husband, Dave, of Austin, Charlie Cahill of Madison, Wisconsin, and Jenifer Cahill of Plano; and 3 great grandsons, Caleb, Nathan, and Jacob Muckerheide, all of Austin.
